El Centro Columbia City (ECCC) will include 87 affordable apartments for families, a multicultural, bilingual child development center, space for Consejo Counseling & Referral Service, and a permanent home for the Church of Hope. The community meeting will provide the following updates on:

  • Overall project design
  • Church of Hope design update
  • Plan for the implementation of art and culture
  • General timing and development issues

El Centro values our diverse community and wants to engage in culturally appropriate ways, calling on interpreters during meetings and translating printed materials. Interpretation in Spanish will be available at the community meeting, but please let us know if you need interpretation in Vietnamese, Amharic, Somali or Chinese when you register.

In 2016, El Centro developed Plaza Roberto Maestas, located in the Beacon Hill community. This award-winning, 112 affordable housing rental apartment community is home to thriving individuals, households, and families. Plaza offers a multi-lingual child development center, a community center, outdoor plaza space for community celebrations and small business vending, retail, and office space.

Plaza Roberto Maestas represents the realization of the hopes and dreams of the diverse group of people who founded El Centro de la Raza nearly 50 years ago. The ECCC development will continue the physical manifestation of the work of the organization in building Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Beloved Community”. Throughout the years tens of thousands of volunteers and friends have helped El Centro de la Raza grow to an organization that serves over 21,000 individuals and children and 7,800 families through the hard work of dedicated employees.
